It’s my worst kept secret that I would die for the chance to shoot a European wedding. Being born and raised in Iowa, I am the biggest advocate for charming farms and miles of fields, but even that can become monotonous. That is until you land in the northeastern portion of the state, where the landscape shifts dramatically to rolling hills and cliffs for miles. It’s easy to feel like you’ve been transported to the Italian countryside, or even Napa Valley for that matter! Enter: Park Farms Winery.
As we arrived at the winery, one question was on our mind: would it rain? There was an unmistakable humidity that could let loose at any second. Caitlin and her father greeted us with worries about the weather and the risk of an outdoor ceremony. But one thing was obvious, Caitlin dreamed of an outdoor wedding. I looked at her and said, “If you move everything inside and it doesn’t rain, I think you’d be more disappointed than if you kept it outside and it rained and you had to run inside. At least you’d know you gave it a shot.” With that, we sealed the deal and the decorators got busy finishing up the outdoor seating and decorations.
The rest of the day went off without a hitch. And during the ceremony, the sun was shining the brightest it had all day with only a few occasional sprinkles.
